Customizable Task Lamp

This is a bare-bones monitor task lamp for those who are willing to do a little work to save a lot of money. Scrounge your junk pile for a bit of LED strip left over from another project and a power supply that matches the LED voltage. Experiment a little with how much light you need, I found that three LEDs was just right for my use, your needs may be different. Once you know your needs take a few measurements: - Length of your LED strip (mine was 102.2 mm) - Width of your LED strip (mine as 8.3mm) - Thickness of your monitor (mine was 17.7mm) - The angle of the back of your monitor (mine was 2 degrees) - How deep you want the lamp to be (I went with 30mm) - The angle of the lamp from the monitor (I used 15 degrees) - How much the bottom of the lamp should slope, this will keep any light reflecting off the back of the lamp holder from hitting your eyes (I used 5 degrees) Use the customizer to make your custom lamp holder and do a test fit on your monitor. You may need to make some small adjustments so it fits nicely. If it slips, just put some hot glue where it contacts the monitor on the top and back and let that cool (don't glue it to the monitor!) This will create some friction and should prevent slipping. Solder up your wires, slide them through the hole, and hot glue the strip to the bottom of the lamp. You can use an unsharpened pencil to push everything down. Connect your lamp to your power supply and enjoy your ultra-cheap task lamp. If you want to splurge, mount a switch on the back of your monitor.
