Customizable Spool Holder

Customizable Spool Holder

cults3d

This is a fully customizable spool holder designed specifically for use with 608 bearings and an M8 threaded rod. To tailor this design to your unique filament spool, simply download and modify the values within the .scad file (Alternatively, you can also follow the method outlined in this project.). To ensure a perfect fit for your spool, measure the diameter of the hole using a caliper and adjust the value "inner diameter" accordingly. As my prints tend to shrink slightly, I added 0.2mm to the diameter for an optimal fit. Additionally, you can modify the value "bearing fit" to "Tight", which is actually the exact outer diameter of the bearings; however, in my case, this setting didn't work, so I made the "Normal" fit value slightly larger. It's recommended that you only use the "Tight" fit if your printer is extremely well-calibrated; even then, you might need to sand the bearing hole to get a proper fit. The third value allows you to adjust the position of the bearing from the inside of the spool hole to the outside. While I haven't tested this version, it should work just as well as the inside version, although you'll likely require supports. With the outside version, you can secure your spool using a washer and nut; if anyone attempts this, please share your results! I've only printed a pair of these so far, as my spools are mostly uniform in size. If you'd like to share your own creations or encounter any issues with this design, I'm more than happy to assist! To complement this project, I've also included the .stl file for my 45mm bq spool holders, which are featured in the accompanying pictures.
