Customizable Sand Sundial - (easy & accurate)

thingiverse

A sundial perfect for the beach or backyard is designed to be accurate within a few seconds for just two days, taking into account local time and Daylight Savings. It's operational between 6 am and 6 pm. This sundial is especially suitable for the beach because it's ease of setup directly correlates with its limited accuracy, which only lasts for two days. As a result, users don't need to determine True North to place it correctly; a level surface is all that's required. Initially printed in two pieces, this sundial requires minimal material. Once pressed into the sand, the dial is removed, leaving behind the gnomon, which casts a shadow and indicates time. The gnomon can also be replaced by a stick or string to scale up the sundial to an enormous size. To set it up, users need their Latitude and Longitude, a level surface, the sun, and a clock. Detailed instructions are provided on the Instructions page. A string can extend the dial face to any large size, while a broom handle and string can create a longer gnomon, enabling small 3D prints to be scaled up at the beach to any desired size. This sundial functions in both hemispheres and all time zones. It's worth noting that Roman numerals do not need to be printed; the dial always displays hours and half-hours marked from 6 am to 6 pm.
