Customizable Rock Climbing Hold
thingiverse
A Hold for Rock Climbing With Customizable Bolt Features. The Code Generates a Variety of Rock Shapes Based on Selected Parameters. The Diameter, Shape, Thickness, Bore Diameter, and Counter-sink Diameter Are All Adjustable to Suit the Needs of the User. A Debugging Mode Allows Users to Experiment with Different Variables Quickly, Making it Ideal for Off-line Use. The Algorithm Creates N Random Spheres Within a Cylinder Defined by Maximum Dimensions. Each Sphere's Radius Varies in Relation to Its Distance from the Center, Governed by a Gaussian Function. A Hull() Function Encloses All the Spheres to Form a Solid Rock Shape. The Bottom Section of the Rock is then Removed to Create a Variable Hold Depth Depending on User Choice. A Bore and Counter-sink Are Then Added for Attachment to a Wall Using a Bolt and Socket Wrench. Future Upgrades Might Include: 1) Generating an Array of Customizable Holds 2) Allowing More Precise Control Over the Countersink Depth 3) Automatically Centering the Bore Within the Hold 4) Implementing a Mold Mode That Enables Users to Cast Their Own Rocks Using Epoxy and Sand. However, the Current Lack of Runtime Variables in OpenSCAD Hampers Progress on This Front, Making Features 2 and 3 Especially Challenging.
