This is a fully customizable base designed to securely hold rods attached to optics equipment for optical experiments. When turned upside down, it also serves as an effective rod safety cap. The design was inspired by the Open-source optics project, which aims to dramatically lower the cost of scientific optical hardware through innovative open-source technology developed by Michigan Tech's Open Sustainability Technology Research Group. Custom Section Use the included OpenSCAD file to tailor this component to your specific needs, then print it on your preferred 3-D printer and enjoy the results. The base features several customization options in the Customizer: adding a magnet to the bottom for increased stability, creating bolt and nut holes to secure the rod firmly in place, and chamfering the bottom edge for improved usability.
