customizable modular connector system (Grad Project)
thingiverse
This was my graduate project from UNSW Art and Design. The project showcases a fresh approach to reuse by utilizing discarded furniture/offcut materials and transforming them into new pieces via cutting and 3D printed connectors. A unique feature of the system is the ability for users to input specific size and shape requirements through Thingiverse customiser models, allowing for perfectly tailored connectors to be created. By incorporating an element of open design, users can experiment with different connector designs, improve existing ones or create entirely new concepts using basic 3D modelling techniques. The overall structure of the system is straightforward: housing pieces serve as base components and plugs provide adaptability by accepting inserts of varying sizes via precision-cut receptacles. Upon further development, potential for improvement becomes apparent, marking the beginning of a more refined design.
