Customizable Miniature Highway Hymns Signs
thingiverse
While working on the "Customizable Miniature Burma-Shave Road Signs Redux," a project found on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2289808), I noticed how closely the vertical arrangement of the Burma-Shave signs resembled a church hymn board. This observation sparked memories of the humorous "Highway Hymns" I had once come across online, which cleverly matched public safety messages with various highway speeds, making them ideal candidates for miniature highway sign duty. I modified the OpenSCAD script from the Burma-Shave signs remix to create slightly larger signs with five out of six signs featuring three customizable text areas. These signs fit snugly on the signposts and don't require any adhesive. If you're using a single extruder printer, pause your print just before the text begins and switch filament to create contrasting text colors on the signs. When slicing the signs at a layer height of 0.20mm, this pause will occur between layers 18 and 19. I recommend using 20% infill for the signs and 100% infill for the signposts. Initially, I had planned to publish this project as a one-off, but since it was created in OpenSCAD, I decided to upload it to Customizer. These signs, like their Burma-Shave counterparts, are versatile and can be easily repurposed. They also offer the flexibility of "hymn board" or "Burma-Shave" mounting options. I've now satisfied my OpenSCAD sign itch for a while, so I'll quietly move on to other projects.
