Customizable Makerbeam 1010 End Cap
thingiverse
This is a protective end cap/foot for Makerbeam that prevents your skin from meeting sharp aluminum corners. It also features added extensions that help stabilize the beam on the table, ensuring it doesn't easily knock over while working. Three STL versions are included: a plain end cap with no extensions, an extra strong version, and a reduced material version designed for use with certain powder binding and resin jetting printers. This design is part of a system that transforms Makerbeam into an optical rail. An optical rail is a long, straight, sturdy rail onto which optical components such as light sources and lenses can be securely fastened and easily moved along its length. Commercial optical rails sell for $250+ per meter, but Makerbeam costs only $12 per meter for the premium black anodized version. The cost savings are clear. This component was inspired by the Open-source optics project, whose mission is to drastically reduce the cost of scientific optical hardware.
