Customizable Laser Diode Rod Clamp

Customizable Laser Diode Rod Clamp

thingiverse

This customizable clamp allows users to mount a laser diode or other cylindrical objects securely onto an optics mounting post. The default STL files are designed for a 12mm laser diode on an 8mm post, utilizing M3 bolts and nuts. The design of this component was inspired by the Open-source Optics project, which aims to significantly reduce the cost of scientific optical hardware through innovative solutions developed by Michigan Tech's Open Sustainability Technology Research Group. UPDATE: The clamp has been refined to be slightly smaller, taking into account measured sizes and some flexibility for the nut to minimize slot size. Additionally, the design is now tighter on the post or rod. This 3D printable component works well at layer resolutions of 0.2mm or finer without requiring supports on most printers. While PLA can be used, it's essential not to over-tighten as it may become fragile. ABS performs better but might not be compatible with certain plastic diode housings. Sintered nylon is almost too soft for optimal performance, but still functions adequately.
