Customizable Hand-Weaving Curved Shuttle
thingiverse
This is a shuttle for hand-weaving or lap-loops designed specifically to meet the needs of users who require a smaller model than the standard loom shuttle. A user's mother requested this design as a replacement for her existing shuttle, which was a bit too large for her needs. Print Settings Rafts: Supports: No Infill: 100% Notes: This part is intended to replace a typical injection-moulded component that measures only a few millimeters in thickness. Due to its slender profile and frequent handling, it's crucial that the model holds up well to wear and tear. For optimal results, printing this shuttle solid (with 100% infill) is highly recommended. If difficulties arise with the ends of the shuttle curling off the print bed during printing, users can resolve the issue by opening the "Printing Assistance" section within the Customizer and adjusting the Pad Height to double their layer height. For instance, if they are printing at a 0.2 mm layer thickness, setting Pad Height to 0.4 should suffice. This addition of pads will help ensure that the shuttle remains flat on the print bed throughout the printing process. When the print is complete, users can easily snap off these pads by bending them back and forth until they break. However, due to the curved shape of the shuttle, a knife may be necessary for a clean removal. Design Process This design leverages the OpenSCAD Bezier curve library, courtesy of William Adams. Since the Makerbot Customizer doesn't support include files, I manually copied and pasted the required functions into my scad file to make this design possible.
