Customizable Engraved Shopping Cart Tokens
prusaprinters

This thing has a customizer which creates "engraved" shopping cart tokens.

For the token, you can select from several pre-defined coins: loonie, one euro coin, two euro coin, British pound, Australian dollar, Canadian quarter, US quarter, or 10 Russian ruble coin. You can also specify the dimensions for any round (cylindrical) coin. Please let me know if any of the pre-defined tokens have the wrong shape or dimensions as I've only tested the Canadian loonie tokens.

For the "engraved" image, you can select from 12 different silhouettes: atom, butterfly faces, cannabis leaf, cat, dog, flower, happy face, heart, maple leaf, Paw Patrol paw print, paw print, or shopping cart.

There is only a single STL mesh included in this thing: a loonie with a maple leaf on both sides and with the initial layer height set to 0.18 mm and the layer height to 0.12 mm. For any other tokens you will need to run the customizer to generate it.

Running the Customizer

Thingiverse hasn't run their customizer queue since Jul 10, 2020 so until they fix that issue, you will have to install and run OpenSCAD (free software) on your own computer to process the code to create your own customized models. See DrLex's instructions linked below for further details.

How to Run Customizer on Your Own Computer

Setting Compatible Layer Heights

3D printers can't print half a layer, so for accurate token sizes you must adjust the layer heights so that an integral number of layers add up to the height of the token. I usually print with a 0.20 mm initial layer height and 0.12 mm layer height for all other layers, but for the tokens I adjusted the initial layer height as in the following table. Whatever heights you decide to use, you need to set them in both the customizer and your slicer. These heights are not set automatically for the pre-defined coins. You must set them in the customizer to the values you want.

Token | Initial layer | Other layers | Token height

One euro | 0.17 mm | 18 x 0.12 mm | 2.33 mm Two euro | 0.16 mm | 17 x 0.12 mm | 2.20 mm British pound | 0.16 mm | 22 x 0.12 mm | 2.80 mm Canadian loonie | 0.18 mm | 15 x 0.12 mm | 1.98 mm Canadian quarter | 0.14 mm | 12 x 0.12 mm | 1.58 mm US quarter | 0.19 mm | 13 x 0.12 mm | 1.75 mm Australian dollar | 0.12 mm | 24 x 0.12 mm | 3.00 mm Russian ten ruble | 0.16 mm | 17 x 0.12 mm | 2.20 mm By default there is only a single engraved layer on the top. For any tokens that you create, if you don't define the layer heights so that an integral number of layers will be sliced to create a full height token, you may have to set the number of engraved layers to 2 for the top engraving to be sliced. If you slice the token and don't see the engraving on the top layer, either adjust your layer heights or generate a new token with 2 engraved layers.

If you want a token with no engraved image, just set the layer heights in the customizer to 0.01 mm. The engraving will still be in the generated token, but the height of the engraving will be too small to be sliced (unless you're slicing with a layer height of 0.01 mm or less).

Some of My Designs

Click an image below (opens in a new tab) or go to my designs page and see them all.

If you see some thing that you like ,please click the Like button and turn that heart red .
Category: Household Supplies
