Customizable Dry Box Spool Holder

thingiverse

This thing is a simple customizable spool holder designed specifically for use with a dry box. The rails that the spools sit on are precision-cut 3/4 inch PVC pipes, carefully crafted to fit snugly within each container's confines. Each foot of the spool holder boasts an impressively small footprint (2 mm x 2 mm), ensuring that it effortlessly penetrates a layer of desiccant beads and sits flat on the bottom of any reasonably sized container. The thing as published is specifically designed to fit a Sterilite 20 quart gasket box, but users can easily customize it for use with other containers. To construct this innovative spool holder, simply print two bridge parts using your preferred material - PLA or PETG work equally well. Cut two pieces of 3/4 inch PVC pipe to the exact length required for your container, which is 335 mm for the Sterilite box. Next, insert the PVC pipe pieces into the bridge pieces, ensuring that the flat sides face each other. The holder is now complete and ready for use. To cut the PVC pipe, you can employ a saw or Dremel tool, but a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter is the easiest option available. This handy tool costs around $14 and provides a clean, square edge in just seconds. The bridge part is highly customizable using Python, allowing users to tailor it to their specific needs. To take advantage of this feature, you must have both Python and OpenSCAD installed on your computer, as well as the Python SolidPython package.
