Customizable cuff experiment
thingiverse
Just having some fun experimenting with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53453 trying to make it print without any support, fit the key and allowing different sizes. It will likely work better in smaller size, you can use slicer to resize it further. This is based on fastkite's excellent customizable cuffs & collar, however the original had a distinct disadvantage for me in that it needs support material to build. To attempt to fix that, I'm building the hinge closed, so it's self-supporting. NOTE this requires a printer with good tolerances and calibration so the hinges don't stick to each other. To aid with this, the expected tolerance has been exposed to the customizer as Hinge_Play. Another nod for printing without support is the addition of slight slope on the underside of the "attachment loops" optional on both sides of the bracelet. This slope is only on the underside, not on the top side since support isn't needed there. Additionally, the hinge holes on the open side have been increased so the printed pins have a chance of fitting inside (although the pins still print vertical, which is challenging, I recommend printing without pins and using a toothpick or whatever fits to save time). I also modified it to print with lower thickness/width ratio because I like my bracelets long and not overly thick. The halves have been made almost symmetrical, because I like things symmetric, so technically if you print two you can mix & match between the two (Remembering that they print with one hinge already formed, so would need to drill through that). In addition I played around with the hole decoration, because a long closed bracelet could become rather sweaty. The default printing size is small because I didn't want to waste plastic experimenting; increase at your own peril.
