We were one of the 30 million people who held our collective breath on Friday, November 20th, as we watched the trailer for the next Star Wars movie unfold. As designers, we couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at a surprising twist in the now legendary scene featuring an enigmatic Sith Lord striding through a snow-covered forest: a crossguard design unlike any we'd seen before. The makers within us simply had to know whether this unconventional configuration was worth emulating - so we decided to build one using our army of 3D printers. While the "darkness" of the cinematic sequence left much to the imagination, and crucial details about the lightsaber remained scarce, our creativity was piqued nonetheless. We knew we could improve upon existing 3D printable models, which already numbered over a dozen on the internet. That's when we conceived an innovative approach: designing a modular system that would grant countless configurations - from Yoda's signature hilt to Darth Maul's iconic blades. Take a closer look at our process in the video showcasing the assembly and in-action footage of the crossguard saber below : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-RrAKZHkwc
