Customizable Cooling Fan Speed and Flow Test

Customizable Cooling Fan Speed and Flow Test

cults3d

This model is designed to test the directional uniformity of your cooling fan air flow and your fan speed settings in a straightforward way. The best indicator of poor cooling is curling corners on overhangs, so this model features pointed overhangs in the shape of an eight-pointed star, aligned with the x and y axes for clear visibility. The orientation is labeled at the top to prevent confusion after removing it from the build plate. To avoid layer adhesion issues caused by high fan speeds, adjust your fan speed to the minimum setting that provides good overhang performance. In the photos, you'll notice the impact of my printer's weak air flow from the -Y direction. The Fusion 360 file is parameterized, allowing you to modify the overhang angle and flare amount by simply changing the numbers. Remember to disable supports for optimal results.
