<p>… to figure out, designing a PLA based brick with similar properties as the well known original one, is harder than he thought.</p><p> </p><h3>Print settings:</h3><ul><li>Layerhight: 0.2 or below. Otherwise structure dimensions will not fit well</li><li>Material: PLA. Other material will behave different due to its properties (stiffness, etc.)</li><li>Support: non required - except you experience warping problems. Then consider bricks with support.</li><li>Elephant footprint compensation enabled.</li><li>Printtime visible is for a 2x4x3 (x/y/z) brick (about 25 minutes).</li></ul><p> </p><h3>Usage</h3><p>So, target was to have a PLA based model which fits as good as possible with bricks from LEGO®.</p><p>With given .scad file, you can simply select the dimension of the brick you want to create, decide if you prefer to have support at its corners to tackle warp issues and you should be ready for printing.<br>Look for “NormalBrickXyzDimension” and “SupportForCorners” to adjust this settings.</p><p>You can <strong>customize</strong> the model by using the .scad file provided. Just download <a href="https://www.openscad.org/">openSCAD</a>, load the file, generate a preview (F5) and tweak the parameters via "Customizer" view. When you are satisfied with the preview, render it (F6) and export .stl.<br> </p><p>In case you are eager to start printing out of the box, some common and well known brick dimensions are given her already.</p><p>Happy printing.</p><p> </p><h3>Possible improvements</h3><ul><li>Optimize outer brick dimensions. Current setting works well, but I guess it can be optimized</li><li>Create thinner inner walls - like for the outer walls.</li><li>Provide (X/Y/Z) matrix input to generate funny rectangular brick blocks, like “L” shape for example.</li><li>Provide settings for 0.3 mm layer hight. Actually I used it in the process, but some model properties are pretty different then to archive compatibility.</li></ul><p> </p><p>LEGO® is a trademark of LEGO group.
