Customizable clip-on bracket for top-facing LED strips on curtain rails
thingiverse
I wanted to put a light strip behind my IKEA KVARTAL curtain rails for indirect lighting.. I wanted a simple solution that prints quickly and that can be installed without screws. The LED strip I use is an outdoor light strip with a silicone sleeve that is 8mm wide, and I wanted to mount it hidden behind the rail, pointing towards the ceiling. The design clip-on hook that fits into the top groove and back curvature of the curtain rail, with a U-shaped holder for the light strip. It is easy to install, and held in place by the weight of the light strip. By adjusting the geometry, it can be adapted to other light strips (and to other curtain rail systems that have a round back edge). The part is customizable - you can adjust the geometry of the bracket (width and length), as well as the geometry of the holder. The supplied STL has a hook with a 16 mm radius that fits IKEA KVARTAL rails. If you download the SCAD file and edit it in OpenSCAD, you can tweak with the build plan to generate other accessories to mount things behind of the rail. The bracket prints flat on the sides and is easy to print in large quantities - I needed about 25 for a 5 m rail. Print sideways for good layer orientation and stability. For a bracket that goes on top of the rail, instead of behind it, check out my other design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5085611
