Customizable cell phone charging stand
thingiverse
I needed a way to see my phone at night while it was charging without fumbling in the dark when my alarm went off. I designed a custom stand for my phone and wanted one for my wife's too. I came up with an idea that minimized reliance on phone dimensions, using only its width as a reference point, but instead relied solely on the charging cord. This stand holds the end of the charging cord, which is presumably some version of USB. It can be customized to fit different sizes of plug ends, including annoying 2-stage plugs with a straight section followed by a tapered one. The math in the SCAD file lets you specify the phone's width and assumes the charging plug is centered on it. You can change this if needed. You can also adjust the angle at which the phone is propped up using the SCAD file. The STL file, along with the current settings in the SCAD file, are designed for a Nexus 5 with a RhinoShield case and the original cord that came with it - my own phone. After Printing The charging cord fits into a slot before you can pull the plug into an enclosure. Once connected, push the enclosure to connect the plug to the phone, and the stand will hold up the phone in place.
