Customizable Butt Hinge

Honestly, a print-in-place hinge is more of a party trick than anything else. For a hinge to be durable, you need a strong pin. A hinge with a metal pin can cost as little as a few dollars, but this one has a plastic pin. There's something to be said for being able to produce a custom hinge on the spot, though. The printed hinge takes #4 wood screws with countersunk heads. If you're using this hinge for something that needs more than a #4 wood screw, shake your head in dismay. Seriously, if your life depends on this hinge, use the printing time wisely and get your affairs in order. To understand the parameters for this customizer, you'll need to know your hinge terminology. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 ZRIB Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 mm Infill: 20% Notes: With drill holes, knuckles, and small surfaces, most slicers will probably print this hinge solid no matter how you set the infill. Post-Printing Make the hinge clear of support material. The hinge has built-in support material between the knuckles so that it won't fuse together when printed. To make it easier to force the hinge and break the support material, the hinge prints with the leaves 30° out of alignment. Place the hinge on a flat surface with the knuckle raised above the surface and press down firmly. Don't hold back; if you need to, put it on a tile floor and stand on it. After it breaks free, wiggle it back and forth until it moves smoothly.
