Customizable Beehive Clip-on mouse guard / entrance reducer
thingiverse
I despise forcing thumbtacks into my beehives for standard mouse guards, so I decided to give designing something a shot that can simply be shoved into the existing entrance and click itself into place. Clearly, it would be a great convenience for the beekeeping Thingiverse community if this design was customizable, as hive entrances come in different shapes and sizes. This is a brand new design, so it's not been thoroughly tested; I'm unsure how it will hold up over winter. The plastic should be fine (use PETG), but the bees might seal it in place with propolis, making removal in spring slightly more difficult than installation in fall. The images show use for different hives, as well as what kind of entrance this guard is intended for (height 6-8mm). The guard is designed to mimic the original entrance shape, so that workers aren't unnecessarily disoriented. I'm not sure if red is the right color, though.
