Customizable 3D Holiday Ornament

### Print a 3D bauble with your name on it! ... or any text you can think of ... or any image from a font icon set Translated my 2020 Holiday Ornament into OpenSCAD to make it customizable. This is still a work in progress, but I wanted to get the basics published in time for Christmas. Hoping to update it soon with the following: * Better text resizing * Option for text inlay * Themes (snowflakes, branches, lines, etc) I also plan to generate STL files for some of the most common names. **If you would like me to create one with your name, just drop me a note** and I will see what I can do. --- #### How to: Since the Thingaverse customizer seems to be on the fritz, I recomend customizing the .scad file with [OpenSCAD](https://www.openscad.org/). Near the top of the file there is an array called "text_array" where you can customize the text. Array elements can be added for additional lines of text. Please note that all the text will be resized horizontally to fit on the surface of the ornament. text_array = [ "LOREM", "IPSUM", ]; Text that is too big may be distorted on the edges and difficult to print. You can play around with the font_size, line_height, and text_height to get it to fit better. The 'text height' is the height of the entire text block - it can be changed to make the entire block smaller/larger. The font can be changed to anything currently on your machine. Look at the list in 'OpenScad > Help > Font list' for all your options. You can even use the wingdings font to add basic imagery. Or, if you install a font icon library (like [Font Awesome](https://fontawesome.com/icons?d=gallery)), you can choose from 1000s of images! I have uploaded several examples including: Snowman, biohazard, bike, and dumpster fire. --- #### Version history: * 0.1.0 - basic functioning code * 0.2.0 - better sphere geometry * 0.3.0 - scale text ratio based on height * 0.3.1 - set Georgia as default font (prints better)
