Customisable 3D printed boxes with screwable bolts
thingiverse
This OpenSCAD script (http://www.openscad.org/) lets you create a STL file that's perfect for 3D printing a box of any size you like. This box is usually used to keep your electronics safe and sound. Take a look at the start of the script to see all the parameters you can tweak. The real magic happens when this box generates columns with special spots where you can insert knurl inserts - copper pieces that make it easy to screw in bolts. The script comes pre-set for 8 mm tall knurl inserts with a 3 mm inside diameter (that's a 3M deal). You can find these knurl inserts online by searching for "knurl insert". When it's time to melt the knurl inserts into the columns, just heat up your soldering iron to 210 C and you're good to go - especially when working with PLA plastic.
