The Cubs are a renowned American baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as part of the National League (NL) Central division, where they're reigning World Series Champions. The team plays its home games at Wrigley Field on the city's North Side. Among two major league teams in Chicago, the Cubs stand alongside the White Sox, an American League (AL) Central division member. Originally known as the White Stockings, the team was a founding NL member in 1876 and became the Chicago Cubs in 1903. The Cubs have appeared in eleven World Series. In 1906, they won 116 games with a record-breaking winning percentage of .763 before losing to the White Sox ("The Hitless Wonders") by four games to two. The team claimed back-to-back World Series championships in 1907 and 1908, becoming the first major league team to play in three consecutive World Series and the first to win it twice. The Cubs are known as "the North Siders" due to Wrigley Field's location within Chicago, contrasting with the White Sox, whose home field (Guaranteed Rate Field) is on the South Side.
