Custom Split 60% Keyboard
thingiverse
This is my very first custom designed and wired keyboard. The project turned out to be a fun challenge that took significantly longer than I anticipated to design, costing more money than I care to disclose. Right now, I'm typing on it and have been using this board for over a month. Two ethernet jacks connect the two sides together, which may not look great but was necessary to avoid putting a separate board in each side and having to figure out how everything works. The assembly consists of 8 M3x12 screws and their accompanying nuts. Despite the unusual placement of the screws, this keyboard feels more solid than many consumer boards I've used previously. One major issue I encountered was trimming down the holes for the switches. Although not a significant problem, it did take up some time. For this project, I'm using Kailh Bronzes and a Teensy 2.0. The openings in the design are tailored to my keystone jacks, but they should also accommodate any standard keystone jack.
