Custom Mouth Stick

Custom Mouth Stick

This highly adaptable mouthstick can work seamlessly with capacitive tablets such as iPads and Android devices when printed with conductive PLA and a conductive sponge is inserted into its tip. I am still refining the open Scad files, but it prints decently. This innovative mouth stick is designed as assistive technology for individuals who have lost the use of their hands, enabling them to type on keyboards, flip pages in books, and dial phones. When printed with conductive plastic, it will function flawlessly with capacitance touch screens such as iPads, iPhones, and Android tablets. The one I printed is made from Protopasta, featuring a conductive foam tip that enhances its responsiveness. A small piece of conductive sponge, cut from a fresh ScotchBrite sponge, serves as the tip, but any conductive sponge will do. Once the mouth stick is printed, it can be custom-sized and bent by heating it up with a heat gun. For more information on assistive technology, visit rehabengineer.com or our agency at rehab.alabama.gov. Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: TAZ 5 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Normal Infill: 20% Notes: Your ability to print the full length will depend on your print bed size. I have had to position this on the diagonal to get it to fit my print bed. Post-Printing Conductive Foam and Bend to Shape After installing a conductive foam, the mouthstick can be heated and bent to make typing easier.
