Custom Grow Light with Timer
thingiverse
A custom LED grow light designed around a [2-foot long fence planter box](https://www.amazon.com/Emsco-Group-2444-2444D-Planter/dp/B01HRUETPW). This project features a built-in [24/7 digital timer](https://www.menards.com/main/electrical/light-switches-dimmers-outlets/outlet-timers/smart-electrician-reg-digital-timer/81339/p-3149259783272843-c-6471.htm), an adjustable MEAN WELL constant current supply ([IDLC-45-1050](https://www.meanwell.com/Upload/PDF/IDLC-45(DA)/IDLC-45(DA)-SPEC.PDF)), and a top-of-the-line Samsung strip light ([SL-B8T4N90LAWW](https://cdn.samsung.com/led/file/resource/2020/09/Data_Sheet_H_inFlux_Ver.2.0.pdf)) That particular LED strip gives 8500 lumens at an efficiency of 190 lumens per watt. Running this lamp will cost ~ $0.10 per day (0.050 kilowatts x 16 hours x $0.12/kWh). Design and construction were done on a deadline, and as such, reference material is lacking. So if you want to build this Thing, contact me for some guidance. The shaft is 5/8-inch copper pipe. The only other parts needed are a 100k potentiometer, a 1/2" snap-in plastic cord grip, and assorted wire. The total cost is $60-$80. The controller box is printed standing upright so that the timer buttons and supports are against the build plate. I added supports manually, so do not print with autogenerated ones. The supports do not need to be removed. Make sure to enable the experimental bridge settings so that the top prints correctly.
