Custom fit filtration mask
thingiverse
This effort aims to tackle the current virus crisis using CG and 3D printing techniques. It offers a workflow and source files to create a custom reusable mask that requires only a small piece of plane filtration material, along with a face shield. The safety of the final product relies heavily on accurately processing the source files, selecting suitable materials, and controlling the environment in which it is built. Caution: These files are not designed to be medical devices and require testing or certification before use. Users must take responsibility for ensuring the safety of their creations. This project originated at https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/meshmixer/custom-fit-filtration-mask-to-print/td-p/9407837. Those with suggestions, questions, or a desire to improve the workflow are encouraged to join the discussion and explore detailed descriptions of generating the mask model. Downloads include all partial files in .STL format, as well as the all-in-one Meshmixer project file (CustomMaskV5.MIX). This single file contains everything needed to load into Meshmixer and create a custom mask from a source shape. Users can capture their individual face shape using 3D scanner technology or virtual reconstruction software from images (such as the FaceBuilder plugin for Blender). Once the mask's body is printed, users have three options for attaching the filter: FilterScrew clamps a 38mm diameter filter material pad directly to the mask, SmallCap+SmallBody builds an adaptor for a 55mm diameter filter, and BigCap+BigBody accommodates a 75mm diameter filter. The face shield is secured using six neodym magnets (6mm in diameter, 2mm high). The upper PMA frame (Shield1+Shield2) was milled on a CNC machine instead of being printed. It clamps the foil with another set of the same neodym magnets. A pre-made mask for printing is also available (>ExampleResult.stl), which can be used as-is or sealed with tape for added protection. This project is primarily intended to produce masks for healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and paramedics, in an effort to protect those who protect us.
