Custom 12864 Display case
thingiverse
After extensively searching for a suitable 12864 case that would perfectly complement my new Smartrap Core, I found several options but none lived up to my expectations. I decided to take matters into my own hands and design a custom case tailored specifically for my RRD 12864 display. Before doing so, I drew inspiration from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:855134, but its design was not ideal as it featured an excessive number of screw holes on the front and back panels. To create the perfect fit for my Smartrap Core case build, I purchased a complete package including the Arduino controller and all necessary parts from Miniinthebox site. The printer itself boasts a compact 30x30x30 printsize, and I cleverly integrated the case to be screwed into both sides of the sturdy 12mm MDF wood base. In the first picture, you'll notice the front example showcasing where the 12864 case is designed to sit. Notably, four distinct points on the back allow for secure attachment to MDF panels, adding stability and structural integrity to the entire assembly. Keep in mind that I'm still working on the printer itself, but I assure you that more detailed photos will be posted soon. To facilitate effortless installation, the case is streamlined to accommodate a seamless insertion of the 12864 RRD panel directly into the front piece, while the back panel expertly holds the display in place. Don't forget to trim the selection knob slightly to ensure it fits perfectly into its designated hole at the front of the case. As an added step, insert the small "stop" knob before placing the 12864 panel inside the case. This crucial detail will help you secure the display in position and maintain stability throughout its operation. Secure the backplate firmly using four reliable 3x20mm screws. While it's uncertain whether other 12864 panels will fit without modifications, I'm confident that my RRD version should accommodate most configurations. Compared to other 12864 cases on the market, mine stands out for its innovative design feature – keeping the display portion fully contained and eliminating any unsightly protrusions.
