The Curtiss Aeroplane Company, initially located in Hammondsport, New York, went on to become a dominant force with its "JN" line of biplanes. Initially developed as U.S. Army trainers, the JN-4 "Jenny", born from this series and popularized by an open-top fuselage forming a distinctive Y-shape, thrived post-World War I as the unsung hero of civilian aviation. With tens of thousands being resold to private pilots at incredibly low prices following the conflict, the Curtiss Jenny found itself right in the midst of America's explosive barnstorming boom during the Roaring Twenties, laying a cornerstone for future U.S. general air traffic with its humble presence everywhere throughout the 1920s countryside.
