Because my dog repeatedly tampered with the kitchen curtain while I was leaving the house, the curtain often snapped off the previously rigid curtain rod bracket and was ruined. So I needed a semi-open bracket (former was closed) from which the curtain rod could jump out under heavy pulling load. No big deal but immensely practical, and after several months of use curtain is still alive.
