Shade Three was designed to serve as a screen between performers on stage and their audience, ensuring everyone remained hidden until it was time for them to reveal themselves to an awaiting crowd. It was created to effectively separate two spaces that had completely different purposes at this specific location. When performers entered through curtains numbered one and two before going out onto the main floor area they often did not feel any stress due to their presence having been kept a secret until then.
