The Curta is a portable mechanical calculator invented by Curt Herzstark. Its innovative design is inspired by Gottfried Leibniz's Stepped Reckoner and Charles Thomas' Arithmometer, utilizing cog systems to accumulate values which are either added or complemented using a stepped drum mechanism. The Curta has an impressively compact structure; it is a small cylinder that can be conveniently held in one's palm.
