I Represent the Third Generation Rover -- Geometry -- This model was crafted in 3ds max with a focus on precision and control. The smooth, curved surfaces are ready to be polished further using TurboSmooth for an even more realistic finish. Inside the 3ds max version of this model, you'll find it's expertly organized across layers, making it easy to navigate and work with individual components. Every single object within the model is carefully labeled for instant identification, saving valuable time when editing or troubleshooting. For an uncluttered viewing experience, you can effortlessly manage your selection sets thanks to clearly named objects. The Model's Geometric Strength Our 3ds max version proudly boasts a generous minimum number of triangular polygons, making it the perfect canvas for further adjustments and modifications without worrying about performance. -- Rendering -- Vray 3.20.02 was used for setting up a high-quality render that accurately captures every detail in this magnificent rover model. For a truly immersive experience within 3ds Max, we've also included Vray sun lighting. In the world of rendering, details are what set a project apart. We took our time crafting the most realistic textures using manual techniques to include real-world dirt and intricate details that make for an authentic look. With texture formats like PSD and JPEG, you can easily edit and adjust your rover's appearance as needed. -- Scale -- For added authenticity, this scene was meticulously designed at a precise real-world scale – units of millimeters. That means when you use this model, every detail is accurate down to the tiniest dimension. Making Movement Easy A series of convenient helpers have been built into the moving mechanisms, allowing for smooth animations without requiring tedious setup or adjustment. Take advantage of these extra features at your convenience. The Dimensions of Perfection When fully deployed on Mars' surface, our rover boasts a length of 3 meters and stands proudly with an installed height of 2.1 meters, alongside a sturdy width of 2.7 meters. In comparison to its predecessors like Spirit and Opportunity rovers that measured in at 1.5 meters and tipped the scales at 174 kilograms (inclusive of scientific gear weighing 6.8 kilograms), this new rover leaves all behind. Climbing Obstacles with Ease With MSL at work on Mars' surface, obstacles up to a towering 75 centimeters prove no challenge at all. While hard flat surfaces call for maximum speeds reaching an impressive 144 meters per hour, navigating more challenging terrain at estimated levels leads us to the optimal pace of about 90 meters per hour with expert guidance through automatic navigation. However, for your comfort, an average cruising speed is about 30 meters per hour, giving you a safe balance between pace and maneuverability. By all estimations, MSL plans to complete a minimum distance of nearly 19 kilometers over the two-year span of its groundbreaking mission on Mars.
