According to one version of the legend, the headless priest is said to be the ghost of a priest who was cursed by God for committing the sin and sacrilege of having sex with a married woman inside a church, without repenting of it in his lifetime. In some other versions, the story merges with another legend, and it's told that the woman was also cursed, and since that day she roams as a being known as the Headless Mule. The curse that fell on the sinful priest killed him before he could confess, forcing his soul to wander as the ghost of a decapitated person, who hides her skull in her clothes due to shame for her actions.
