The timeless tale of Cupid and Psyche originates from the ancient Latin novel Metamorphoses, penned by Apuleius in the 2nd century AD. Psyche, a stunning beauty, captivated Cupid, the son of Venus, who fell head over heels in love with her. Each night, Cupid would secretly visit Psyche, promising to return every evening but refusing to reveal his true appearance to her. As a result, she was granted permission to reside in a lavish palace. However, Psyche's envious sisters manipulated her into sneaking a peek at her lover, claiming he was a hideous monster and that she should eliminate him. The moment Cupid's authentic beauty was unveiled to Psyche, she was taken aback and accidentally dripped hot wax onto his shoulder, instantly waking him. He vanished immediately. Overwhelmed with despair, Psyche embarked on a perilous journey in search of her lost love, enduring numerous trials along the way. Ultimately, they were reunited, and their union was sealed in marriage. As a reward for her unwavering devotion, Psyche was granted immortality and elevated to the status of Goddess of Soul.
