Cupholder Conversion Kit for E36 BMW's
thingiverse
The original factory cupholders on 1992-1999 BMW 3-series (E36) vehicles are too narrow to accommodate modern cups, causing them to tip over when placed in the holders. This results in a useless cupholding system. This conversion kit solves this issue by modifying the cupholder design to provide a shallower surface for cups and cans to rest on. The updated design fits all E36 models, including the 318i, 325i, 328i, and M3. For optimal performance, consider printing these parts in ABS material, as they are less prone to deformation on hot days. Although PLA has never caused deformation issues for me, the ring part may still bend. Fortunately, this does not affect the center console plastic. To install the updated cupholders: 1. Carefully remove the cupholder module from the center console. 2. Release the spring-loaded components from the cup holder assembly. 3. Reinsert the cupholder module into its original position. 4. Install the new insert and ring parts, completing the modification process.
