This is a combined fan mount and duct for a 40mm fan, designed to fit on the x/y carriage rear, blowing air towards the y-axis stepper motor. It addresses overheating issues during long prints. Uploaded files include .sldprt, .iges, and .stl formats, created in Solidworks 2010. A Jan 9, 2013 update reworked the file to ensure Z-Up alignment and fan mount flange positioning. For assembly, print the part, attach a 40mm fan (using M3 x 25mm screws for thicker fans or M3x16 for thinner ones). Replace rear carriage's two M3x8 stepper mount screws with M3 x 12 screws, securing the shroud with M3 washers under each screw head (ideally using an M3 x 10 screw). Lastly, connect the fan to a 12V power source and enjoy cool y-axis motor performance during printing.
