Cup and Balls Trick Cup

Cup and Balls Trick Cup

thingiverse

I wanted to print a set of cups for the classic Cup and Balls magic routine but couldn't find anything that I liked, so I tried a couple and they didn't work well. One version even thought that cups that lock together was a good way to do this trick... NOT!!! The cups must freely separate when one cup is lifted off of the stack of nested cups; cups that stick together are not the way to do this trick. I use 25mm foam balls, which I commonly find on Amazon and other sites. These balls give a much better presentation than the furballs or hairballs that come with commercial versions of this trick. There are plenty of videos showing how this trick is performed on YouTube and other sites; print three cups, get some foam balls, and have fun! Common drinking cups won't work for this trick because they need to be designed so there's room for a ball to fit in between the cups when they're stacked. I found a customisable SCAD file that would generate cups in just about any size I want; here's a link to it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2936229, thanks to rhtndnjs03! I generated a cup that I thought would work and took the STL file into Tinkercad to modify it to meet my needs, and this is the result - hope you enjoy using it to entertain your friends, family, or total strangers. I love magic! I used to be a magician when I was younger but slid off into the tech world for a few decades; now I've come full circle.
