This statue was discovered close to the temple of Apollo. Euphranor of Corinth stands out as the sole Greek artist who excelled both as a sculptor and painter. Pliny the Elder lists his works, including a cavalry battle, a Theseus, and Odysseus' feigned madness among the paintings; and Paris, Leto with her children Apollo and Artemis, Philip, and Alexander in chariots among the statues. No existing statues have been identified as copies from Euphranor's work. His art appears to resemble that of his contemporary Lysippus, particularly in the attention he paid to symmetry, in his preference for forms slightly less than those common in earlier art, and in his love of heroic subjects. He authored a treatise on proportions.
