Design Notes As someone who dislikes support material or the hassle of gluing, I wanted a part that would simply print without any issues. Printing letters on the base or bottom can lead to them being squashed during the first layer. Conversely, if printing from letters upwards, the backing of the letters requires bridging (or some form of support material). Alternatively, if letters are printed on top, the cufflink end has a relatively small surface area on the print bed. Additionally, to print a backing to the letters, support material is inevitably needed. Sideways Letters are "sideways" because they tend to print best that way. This orientation allows for a nice effect from the lines of the z-axis while minimizing other artifacts. The opposite end of the cufflink offers ample surface area on the print bed, making it ideal for small objects. Support The model is designed with no support material required. Letters are extruded at 45 degrees where necessary to provide adequate support without compromising their embossed appearance. Print Settings I opt for a 0.8mm brim (twice nozzle size) and a layer height of 0.15 mm when printing.
