I've been obsessed with this idea for years, but the Challenge set by Make Anything finally pushed me to complete and share my design! I printed the models on a Dutchy 3D printer borrowed from my workplace, but any printer will do. The base of the model is a fully printable 3x3 puzzle cube that's specially designed so all 27 pieces can be printed in place, supporting each other with 0.2mm clearance all around - thanks to Devon for pointing this out! This makes print time much faster and eliminates the need for any support structures. The tool itself (cubify-anything.stl) is a 'negative' of an extended version of this cube: it's essentially a model of the voids. When you subtract this negative from any other solid shape, you're left with the same shape divided into 27 puzzle pieces that can be printed, pried apart and reconnected with six small screws. Remember, the object you use should have a solid center and be as spherical or cubic as possible for best results. Stay inspired!
