Cubic Sphere
thingiverse
A unique sphere design boasts spiral voids for attaching orthogonal spring segments, creating a cubic structure when connected. The masses and springs interact through vibrations and resonances, mimicking phonon behavior. Printed on an M'bot Rep'2 using white PLA filament, the 2-shelled sphere weighs approximately 28 grams and takes around 2 hours and 18 minutes to print. To craft the model, utilize 302 SS extension springs, overstretching and cutting segments at a 1cm pitch. Securely attach the springs to spiral-voided spheres with gel cyanoacrylate, ensuring proper orientation for cube construction and taking caution while handling the stretched springs.
