CubeX External Spool Holder with Filament guide
thingiverse
Please excuse the images of the object - my power "flickered" just as the print was in its final phase, and the CubeX couldn't retrieve the information from where it left off. The pictures show it can hang off the front of the printer, but it can actually hang on any side of the CubeX since the spool's rod is parallel to every side it hangs from. With the filament guide, the system provides minimal resistance when the gears in the print head pull the filament. The object functionally hangs, and the filament guide would have turned out just fine if everything had gone smoothly. The cardboard cubify cartridge spool fits perfectly on the spool rod with room for even smaller spools too. This model is a remake of this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:401979. It is designed to hold a spool off the back of the CubeX, using a bulk filament spool that has an overall diameter of 225mm (aka, the distance between the spool rod and the wall of the CubeX will be 112.5 mm). The remake includes a more compact design and an added filament guide so that the filament can enter the print jet from an angle about 40 degrees from the horizontal as opposed to from a 0 degree angle. The holes in the design are meant to save both filament and weight. A NOTE: the top cover of the CubeX printer must be off when using this design. All feedback is welcome. Instructions can be printed without support, and printing with a 25% infill works well (using KISSlicer).
