Here's a dissection of an 8-piece puzzle into three larger cubes: the 6x6x6 cube, the 4x4x4 cube, and the 5x5x5 cube. It demonstrates visually that 3^3 + 4^3 + 5^3 = 6^3. The eight pieces make up the 6x6x6 cube and can be used to create a 3x3x3 cube and two other cubes. This puzzle originated from a figure in a book by Harry Lindgren, referencing R.F. Wheeler's work in 1951. Here is the OpenSCAD code for printing it. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator (5th Generation) Rafts: Not necessary Resolution: 0.3 mm How to Solve the Puzzles: The pieces are labeled A through H and colored accordingly. Images above provide instructions on solving both the 4x4x4 cube and the 6x6x6 cube. Solving these puzzles requires great effort without assistance. The 5x5x5 puzzle uses only five pieces, DEFGH, and is simpler when the other three pieces are set aside.
