Cube Constructor Set

Cube Constructor Set

This clever cube is designed to facilitate the construction of intricate structures by connecting multiple cubes together using rods. It's particularly well-suited for crafting Burr puzzles and interlocking cube puzzles. The set I've created features 15 mm cubes paired with 4 mm diameter rods. Initially, I utilized some fibreglass rod that was readily available, but dowel or even kebab sticks should also work effectively. Additionally, printer filament could be used as a substitute. The size of the cube and the diameter of the holes can be easily adjusted within the open SCAD file. To ensure a precise fit, conduct a test print with a single cube before proceeding to verify that the hole size aligns with the rod size. It's worth noting that my printer tends to produce smaller vertical holes compared to horizontal ones. Once you've confirmed the optimal hole size, it's best to print multiple cubes at once and then begin building your structure. The puzzle showcased here is an exemplary model of Staple Cubes by Oskar van Deventer. For further inspiration, visit the Puzzle Will be Played site to discover a vast array of puzzles that can be created using these versatile cubes. Other potential projects include crafting polycubes or replicating iconic Minecraft structures.
