CTC Prusa I3 (Anet A8) X-Axis Upgrade
pinshape
This is a major upgrade to the X-Axis of the CTC Prusa I3 3D Printer and all similar I3 clones like the Anet A8, designed to utilize an upgraded 2020 V-slot aluminum profile as the guide instead of the original steel rods. The aluminum guide paired with a high-quality extruder carriage that slides smoothly on three plastic V-type wheels has proven to be significantly better than the original solution. It boasts less weight, fewer vibrations and noise, no alignment issues, and an improved aesthetic appeal. Testing revealed the upgraded solution performs flawlessly using a 2020 (20x20mm section), 350mm long aluminum V-Slot profile. In addition to this, you will need an X-carriage with three or four V-type wheels, a timing belt (2GT, 6mm wide), one pulley (a 20T GT2 aluminum pulley was used), and various length M3 screws and nuts. For the carriage, an aluminum version was purchased online and a custom adapter was created. However, any other type or shape of carriage can be utilized as long as it is designed to roll on the 2020 profile. The parts were designed with the flexibility to still use them with the original steel rods if needed; however, this configuration has not been physically tested yet. A notable discovery was made: for fastening the brass nut, using only two screws in opposite positions works better than employing four.
