This is an exceptionally well-preserved skull of the genus Cephalotropis. This specimen was found in Villanueva de la Reina (Jaén) and belongs to the Upper Miocene (Tortoniense). Currently it is on display at the Paleontology Museum of the University of Granada. A reconstruction of the skull, taking into account the parts that were not preserved, allows us to approximate a length of about 117 cm for the skull, and approximately 7.5 meters for the complete whale. Fossil specimen of a whale from the genus Cephalotropis (Tortoniense, 9-10 million years). Artistic recreation of a whale from the genus Cephalotropis and its comparative size.
