Crystal structure of Vesuvianite (Idocrase)
sketchfab
Human: Mineral name: Vesuvianite (Idocrase) Formula: Nineteen calcium atoms, three iron-III ions, four aluminum ions, six more aluminum ions, two magnesium ions, and four empty spaces combine with twelve silicon-oxygen groups to form a complex mineral structure. Classification: Silicates belong to the Sorosilicate group. Crystal system: Tetragonal crystals have a unique arrangement of atoms that give them their distinct shape. Crystal class (Hermann-Mauguin): The crystal's symmetry can be described as four times the size in one direction, multiplied by two in another, and again in a third, resulting in a total of eight-fold symmetry. Space group: The mineral's crystal structure is made up of 16 atoms arranged in a specific pattern. Crystal data from Winter J.K. & Ghose S. (1979) provides detailed information about the mineral's properties. Note: Colors in these models are represented using the CPK color code.
