Crystal Palace Megalosaurus
sketchfab
A bronze scale model depicting the life-size Megalosaurus statue standing tall in Crystal Palace Park, London, between 1853 and 1855, was likely crafted by skilled sculptor Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins. Megalosaurus earns its place in history as the first dinosaur to be formally described in a scientific context by William Buckland in 1824, although the term 'dinosaur' itself wasn't coined by anatomist Richard Owen for nearly two decades. Its fearsome teeth were likened to an assortment of sharp knives, swords and saws. For additional details, visit https://cpdinosaurs.org/visit/statue-details/megalosaurus.
