Crystal Light

A small crystal light adds some warmth to a patio with a simple twist of an IR remote, turning on, off, changing color, and animation style at will. The screw holes are cleverly designed to work seamlessly with heated threaded inserts for a secure fit. The LED and Arduino construction draws inspiration from the popular Adafruit Techno Tiki torch build, but with a fresh new exterior case. Please note that the cage around the crystal enclosure is not included in this design, using instead tiki torches found at Home Depot with the torches expertly removed. Take a look at this animation example to see it in action: https://youtu.be/DEl1y8pq75w Print Settings Printer: FlashForge Creator Pro Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20% Notes: Printed with skirt / brim and 10% speed on first layers. v1 v1.0 Sliced out the top of the crystal structure and created a mirrored bottom section, adding screw holes and receivers for heat thread inserts so parts can be screwed together smoothly. v1.1 Current Revision Snap fit design The snap fit design is a bold new approach, with a first attempt resulting in a successful pair, but requiring some light sanding to prevent the male part from fitting too tightly. Future adjustments may be necessary after a few more test prints. Future Revisions Wish list updates Add a USB charge port to keep things powered up This will require adding a USB charge circuit to the Arduino build for seamless functionality. Add an externally accessible on/off switch for ultimate control This will need to be added to the Arduino build for convenience. Add supports for Arduino innards to prevent them from sliding around Consider adding optional holes in the bottom for drainage or making opposite half as wire hole addition. Add optional holes in the back for wires, making opposite half as drainage hole addition. Filament I've experimented with various colors and styles of filaments to find the optimal levels of LED diffusion. Here's a ranking of the best diffusion to worst I've tested so far: Dockwell Glow in the dark blue - PLA - This filament is brittle but prints well once it gets going. Hatchbox White - PLA Solutech Natural Clear - PLA
